Ethnographic Area Complex Zlatograd

Zlatograd is a small town in the Rhodope Mountains located just 2 km away from the Greek border and 60 km southeast of Smolyan. Zlatograd Ethnographic Area Complex lies in the heart of the town. It is an open-air museum which is also part of the everyday life of local people. The complex has an ethnographic museum, workshops and an exhibition of water equipment.

One of the attractions of Zlatograd Ethnographic Complex are three existing water facilities - mill, fulling-mill and fulling. They are located in a building known as Vuntsovata mill. The mill is used to grind flour, the fulling mill is a facility for the processing of woolen fabrics and fulling mill is used for washing.

In the ethnographic complex many Bulgarian festivals and customs are celebrated traditionally - Trifon Zrezan, Baba Marta, Todorovden, Midsummer Eve, Christmas. Feast of Zlatograd is celebrated on November 21.
