Pamporovo is one of the top 3 bulgarian ski resorts with sunny skies and a lot of landmarks. There is a lot to see in Pamporovo, which makes it a perfect place for tourists and winter sports fans. Pamporovo is famous for its landmarks, some of which are included in the 100 national tourist sites in Bulgaria.
Mount Snejanka (Snow White) is 1926 meters high. It is built on top of a television tower, which is 156 meters high. The climate is mild and it is mostly sunny. On top of the tower there is a restaurant with a panoramic view of Smolyan and Pamporovo. The peak is part of the 100 national tourist sites in Bulgaria.
Smolyan lakes are located on the left slope of the valley of Cherna reka (Black River) from Orpheus rocks and Mount Snejanka in Smolyan. In the past there were more than 20 lakes, but now there are only 8 left - 7 of them are natural and Keryanov pond was converted into a dam. The remaining lakes today are swamps.
The Devil's Throat cave
The cave "Dyavolsko garlo’" (Devil`s Throat) got its name because the rocks around the cave's entrance look like a gaping mouth. If the river in The Devil's Throut carries something insde, it will never be retrieved. Some years ago, the rising river carried away 500 kilograms of wood and not a single whittle was discovered. When making research, cave specialists poured colorful water along the stream, which went out after 2 hours.
“Yagodina” Cave is located in the Buynovo Gorge near the Rhodope village of Yagodina. It is one of the most famous and most visited caves in Bulgaria. Its galleries extend to a length of 8, 501 meters, which makes it the 4th longest cave in Bulgaria and the longest in the Rhodopes. The temperature in the cave is between 6 and 8 degrees C all year round, and it has a humidity of more than 90% (as do most caves).
The Eagle Eye Platform
"Eagle Eye" Panorama (or "Orlovo oko" in Bulgarian) is one of the most interesting places to visit near the village Iagodina in Bulgaria. It is a unique observation platform rising to over 1500 meters altitude. The view from up there is breathtaking, you can see all the beauty of the Eastern Rhodopes. The panorama is located on Mount St. Iliya (Sveti Iliya) - one of the highest peaks in this region.
Architectural complex of Shiroka Laka
Folklore and architectural complex of Shiroka Laka - Shiroka laka village is located in the Rhodopes, 24 km northeast of Smolyan and 11 km away from Pamporovo. The name of the village derives from the old Bulgarian word “ laka” – curve, bend, meander. Shiroka laka was founded in the 17th century and has now become one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Rhodopes and in Bulgaria.
Eco-trail “The Waterfalls Canyon”
Soskovcheto Reserve and the Waterfall Canyon Eco-Trail start at the end of Sredok Housing Estate in the western part of Smolyan. The highest point of the trail is at about 1800 meters above sea level and has a vertical drop of approximately 700 meters.
"Uhlovitsa" cave is one of the most beautiful caves in Bulgaria. It is situated at a distance of 3 km north-east from the village of Mogilitsa, at about 30 km southwest from Smolyan and about 37 km from the resort Pamporovo. The cave is situated in the locality of Sinite Virove in the Rhodope mountain, near the border with Greece.
Architectural complex “Agushevi konatsi”
Architectural complex “ Agushevi konatsi” is the largest late medieval feudal castle on the Balkan Peninsula. It is located in Mogilitsa village in the Rhodope Mountain and it's 25 km away from Smolyan. The architectual ensemble is one of the few preserved buildings from the Ottoman times that has status of an architectural and artistic monument of national importance.
Ethnographic Area Complex Zlatograd
Zlatograd is a small town in the Rhodope Mountains located just 2 km away from the Greek border and 60 km southeast of Smolyan. Zlatograd Ethnographic Area Complex lies in the heart of the town. It is an open-air museum which is also part of the everyday life of local people. The complex has an ethnographic museum, workshops and an exhibition of water equipment.
The Wonderful Bridges
The unique natural landmark "Wonder Bridges" (Chudnite mostove) is situated in the central part of the Rhodope mountains in Bulgaria, at 1450 meter altitude above sea level. The Wonderful Bridges are two natural rock bridges located in a pine forest over the Aidarsko Dere River.
Perperikon (or Hyperperakion or Perperakion) is located in the Eastern Rhodope mountains in Bulgaria, only 10 miles from the town of Kardzhali. Perperikon is perched on a rocky peak at 1, 400 ft above sea level guarded at its foot by the village of Gorna Krepost.
Eco trail Struilitsa – Kaleto – Lukata
Two kilometers away from the town of Devin is the beginning of the one of the most scenic trails - Struilitsa – Kaleto -Lukata. It was built in the gorge of the river Devin and there are many specially built bridges crossing from one bank to the other.
Mount Perelik and "The house of bears"
Golyam Perelik (2191 m) is the highest peak in the Rhodope Mountains. The array is covered with juniper bushes and low spruces. The foot of the peak can be reached from the chalet Perelik for about 1 hour. There is a chapel "St. Kirik and Julita" built by the military at "Churika" meadow close to the peak.
